LESS IS MORE
It’s best to keep make-up to a minimum and let your skin breathe. If you feel you can’t go completely make-up-free – after all, you never know who you might meet in the airport – layer a lightweight base like a BB cream or tinted moisturiser over a face mask to keep skin plumped as you fly. Choose a lip balm richer than you usually would, and add a sweep of red lipstick when it’s finally time to hit departures.
MAXIMUM HYDRATION
The number-one in-flight rule? Stay hydrated. Aim to drink at least half a litre of water every hour and avoid alcohol and caffeine. If you do need a caffeine fix, a green tea will give you a boost without being dehydrating . If you do need a caffeine fix, a decaf green tea will give you a boost without being dehydrating . Quench your skin’s thirst from the outside in with a lightweight serum layered under an antioxidant-rich moisturiser, and spritz a rehydrating spray throughout the flight to keep skin hydrated, soft and glowing.
EAT FRESH
While it’s tempting to go for a three-course meal as you embark on a movie marathon, try to avoid in-flight foods that are rich in salt and fat, as these can contribute to bloating and feelings of sluggishness, which ultimately show in your skin. Ideally, have a light pre-flight meal and take healthy snacks on board; think proteins, salads, nuts and fresh fruit. Choose the high protein and vegetable option from the in-flight menu, and don’t forget to steer clear of fizzy drinks.
MASK ON
One of the benefits of long haul is that it’s the perfect excuse to give your skin a treat with an ultra-nourishing face mask. A sheet mask saves a trip to the bathroom – after cleansing, just pop it on and relax. Follow with a facial oil, massaging it into the skin for maximum hydration. And it’s not only your skin that needs a little TLC! Massage a leave-in hair mask or deep conditioner into your hair, then braid your hair or put it into a bun and unravel it upon arrival; you’ll look like you just had a blow-dry!
GET A GOOD NIGHT'S SLEEP
Loungewear? Check. Calming essential oils? Check. Cashmere blanket? Check. These essentials will help you to settle down and catch some well-earned shut-eye, so you can look and feel your best on arrival. Dot aromatherapy oils on pulse points and wrap yourself up in your blanket, with an eye mask to block out any glare from TV screens. Change out of your loungewear and into a new outfit upon landing – you’ll instantly feel fresher.
